My friend Matthew Dougan designed this Home in 2004 - 2005 and it was built in 2006 - 2007. The photos taken were within 6 months after the construction was completed so the flora and fauna have grown significantly since that time.  The Clients asked Matt to design them a home in the style of the of the Old Villas in Italy, France and Spain and also make it transitional enough so that it ages well and the style does not get dated. The design consist of an estate style layout with main house of 3,250 square feet a detached guest casita (small house) of 550 square feet and a detached single car garage and studio of 550 sq. feet with it's own bath.

The main home consists of a 2 car garage, kitchen , powder room, laundry room, a master suite bedroom with sitting room, a bath, and master courtyard, a library, a loft office niche, a guest suite bedroom and bath and a third room in the main house in a loft in the stone entry tower with access from the main living room (greatroom) via wrought iron stairs and a balcony with double doors overlooking the greatroom. The double doors at the balcony (see interior greatroom photo) came out of an old chapel that was demolished in Spain and are said to be about 500 years old. There is also a carved wood window dormer high up above the stairs that came out of the chapel as well and it too is said to be at least 500 years old.

The roof tiles for the home actually came from Valencia spain and the stucco is done in the old world earth pigment style that ages and develops patina over time. There are handmade wrought iron railings chimney grates and gates throughout the property echoing the style of the European villas as well as the hand laid stonework walls and steps as well. The Home sits in a most beautiful location in Sedona, Arizona USA at the base of Elephant mountain and is only 2 hours drive from the World famous Grand Canyon. The only thing that might have made this home even better is if it was on the coast of Spain or in Provence or Lake Lugano in Italy.
