9038 Wonderland Park, The Sale of an Icon

.

One of the most famous houses in Los Angeles, and acknowledged world-wide as a seminal modernist single home design, Case Study House #21 is arguably Pierre Koenig’s greatest steel frame design, and the high point of the Case Study Program promoted by Arts & Architecture Magazine from 1945 to 1964. The house was one of the few Case Study houses that was a true prototype in terms of ground-breaking design and use of new materials. Breathtakingly radical and innovative for its time, the public and private rooms are separated by a central core housing bathrooms and mechanical room. The structure is surrounded by water ponds that circulate to the roof and return as fountains. Koenig’s Case Study House #21 exemplifies the architectural revolution that took place in Los Angeles just after World War II. In 1997 Pierre Koenig was asked by the then current owner of the home to restore the house to its former glory, and this was completed in 1998. BMW R 5 Hommage Motorcycle

.

Built to celebrate the 80th anniversary of BMW's legendary boxer, the BMW R 5 Hommage Motorcycle is a carefully updated take on the classic. Dreamed up by BMW Motorrad head designer Ola Stenegard and brought to life by builders Ronna and Benna Norén and Sebastian Gutsch, it has a custom frame that's very similar to the original, yet adds in modern elements like a comfortable rear suspension and modern front fork. The engine is an original R 5, restored to glory and paired with a supercharger and custom stainless steel exhaust for added power. Finishing off the bike are a hand-hammered steel tank with ghosted black paint, a one-off seat covered in hand-stitched leather, and custom handlebars with machined, adjustable controls. A fitting tribute to a great pre-war bike. Via : uncrate.com

1964 Citroen DS 19 Decapotable

.

It's hard to talk about this 1964 Citroen DS 19 Decapotable without mentioning its coachwork. Created by Henri Chapron, the DS convertible started as an independent project before Citroen finally gave the official okay. That was a very good thing, as it allowed the streamlined body to be mated to the DS' advanced self-levelling hydro-pneumatic suspension, creating a mix of handling, performance, and looks that wouldn't be matched for years. This particular example was delivered new to France, has had only three owners, and has been expertly restored over the past 15 years, including complete overhauls of the engine and semi-automatic transmission, a re-trim of the interior, and a renewal of the electrical systems.
