The Aerotrain

The Aérotrain was a Hovertrain developed in France from 1965 to 1977. The lead engineer was Jean Bertin. The goal of the Aérotrain was similar to that of the magnetic levitation train: to suspend the train above the tracks so the only resistance is that of air resistance. Consequently, the Aérotrain could travel at very high speeds without the technical complexity and expensive tracks of magnetic levitation.

The A Eighth Avenue Express






The A Eighth Avenue Express is a rapid transit service of the New York City Subway. Its route bullet is colored vivid blue on route signs, station signs, and the official subway map since it runs on the IND Eighth Avenue Line in Manhattan. The A service operates at all times. The usual service pattern is between 207th Street in Inwood, Manhattan and Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway, Queens (this is the longest one-seat ride in the system, at over 31 miles or 50 km) or Ozone Park – Lefferts Boulevard in Richmond Hill, Queens via Central Park West / Eighth Avenue Express in Manhattan, Fulton Street Express in Brooklyn and Liberty Avenue / Rockaway Local in Queens.

The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe was the last remaining continually-operated passenger steam train in Africa, ending operation in June 2009. The railway was completed in 1928, and links the towns of George and Knysna in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Aerotrain (GM)

.


The Aerotrain was a streamlined trainset introduced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in the mid-1950s.Like all of GM's body designs of this mid-century era, this train was first brought to life in GM's Styling Section. Chuck Jordan was in charge of designing the Aerotrain as Chief Designer of Special Projects. It utilized the experimental EMD LWT12 locomotive, coupled to a set of modified GM Truck & Coach Division 40-seat intercity bus coach bodies.

Southern Pacific

The railroad was founded as a land holding company in 1865, later acquiring the Central Pacific Railroad by lease. By 1900, the Southern Pacific Company had grown into a major railroad system which incorporated many smaller companies, such as the Texas and New Orleans Railroad and Morgan's Louisiana and Texas Railroad, and which extended from New Orleans through Texas to El Paso, across New Mexico and through Tucson, to Los Angeles, throughout most of California including San Francisco and Sacramento.

The Ghan

The Old Ghan

The Ghan is a passenger train operating between Adelaide, Alice Springs, and Darwin on the Adelaide-Darwin railway in Australia. Operated by Great Southern Railway and with locomotives provided by Pacific National, the journey takes 48 hours to travel the 2,979 kilometres (1,852 miles). The service's name is an abbreviated version of its previous nickname The Afghan Express, unofficially bestowed on the "express passenger" service of the Commonwealth Railways in 1923, by one of its crews.

The R142 is the model class of the newest generation of IRT cars for the New York City Subway. Built by Bombardier in Plattsburgh, New York and Barre, Vermont from 1999–2002, these 1,030 cars, along with the R142A, are the new backbone of the IRT fleet.

New York Central

The New York Central Railroad (reporting mark NYC), known simply as the New York Central in its publicity, was a railroad operating in the Northeastern United States. Headquartered in New York, the railroad served most of the Northeast, including extensive trackage in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Massachusetts, plus additional trackage in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Its primary connections included Chicago and Boston. The NYC's Grand Central Terminal in New York City is one of its best known extant landmarks.
