Bridges in New York City # 3

.

George Washington Bridge

The George Washington Bridge (known informally as the GW Bridge, the GWB, the GW, or the George) is a suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, connecting the Washington Heights neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City to Fort Lee in New Jersey. Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1/9 cross the river via the bridge. U.S. Route 46, which is entirely in New Jersey, ends halfway across the bridge at the state border.

Greenpoint Avenue Bridge

The Greenpoint Avenue Bridge is a drawbridge that carries Greenpoint Avenue across Newtown Creek between Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Blissville, Queens. Greenpoint Avenue continues eastward into Queens where it connects to Roosevelt Avenue.

Harlem River Bridge

The Harlem River Bridge of the IRT Third Avenue Line was a double-decked swing railroad bridge that spanned across the Harlem River between Manhattan and the Bronx. It was located between the Third Avenue Bridge and the Willis Avenue Bridge. The upper deck carried the express tracks, the lower one the local tracks and an additional pedestrian walkway.

Hell Gate Bridge

The Hell Gate Bridge (originally the New York Connecting Railroad Bridge or The East River Arch Bridge) is a 1,017-foot (310 m) steel through arch railroad bridge between Astoria in the borough of Queens and Randall's and Ward's Islands (which are now joined into one island and are politically part of Manhattan) in New York City, over a portion of the East River known as Hell Gate.
