Racing crazy

Motor racing was where most Abarths were destined to shine and shine the Simca Abarth 1300 GT did. In its first season of racing, 1962, nine major victories were scored by 1300 GTs and at the end of the season it was lapping as quick as 2 litre cars.


After leaving Ferrari, in 1961 Giotto Bizzarrini set up “Prototipi Bizzarrini” in Livorno, Tuscany where he designs and consults for Marques like ATS, Lamborghini and Iso Rivolta.


The Type 35 was the most successful of the Bugatti racing models. It was the first vehicle to feature the famed Bugatti arch-shaped radiator.
The Type 35 was phenomenally successful, winning over 1,000 races in its time. It took the Grand Prix World Championship in 1926 after winning 351 races and setting 47 records in the two prior years. At its height, Type 35s averaged 14 race wins per week. Bugatti organized the Targa Florio as a special spotlight for this car, and it claimed victory there for five consecutive years, from 1925 through 1929.


Driver Brian Lister began producing sports racing cars during the mid-1950s, using MG and Bristol engines at first, and then experimenting with Jaguar and Chevrolet power. The Lister-Jaguars of 1957 had success racing against the highly competitive Jaguar D-Types and Aston Martins of the time. In total, there were 34 examples of the Lister-Jaguar constructed.
