Nicholas' Commando

.

by our guest contributor Nicholas Biebuck

I was very interested to read your piece about your beautiful Commando 850 and using it as a day to day machine. I currently ride a 1972 Commando 750 which Peter Williams described as looking like it was built on a Friday afternoon when everyone wanted to go home i.e. not very good. I am now on a quest to make it my daily ride until I can get a new Commando 961 but keep the "used look" (I have attached a photo of it on the work bench and you can see that most of the Norton logo has rubbed off the tank). I have an electronic ignition now, have had the front drum serviced and set up correctly (I prefer to look of drums rather than discs on the Commando), have put Ikon rear shocks on a belt primary drive so am getting there but there is still a lot of work to do. My dream is a Quaife gearbox (the weakest item on my bike at the moment) but they are very expensive.

Anyway I hope all is well with you Frank. Are you going to Week-End de l’Excellence de Reims in September?

Nicholas , just in case you have free time during the next winter season i add this picture of another 72 Commando ...
