Henry Francis Farny (born Ribeauvillé July 15, 1847, died December 23, 1916) is an American painter and illustrator of French origin, specialized in the description of American Indians. Farny's family left France in 1853 and emigrated to the United States. She moved to Warren, Pennsylvania, near the Seneca Indian reservation. Farny discovered very early Indian civilization and remains deeply affected. Around 1859 the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Attracted by painting and drawing, the young man became an illustrator for magazines and books for children. At 18, Harper's Weekly published a two-page view of Cincinnati where he is the author.
