The best years of Sunbeam were in their early history. They built up a tremendous reputation for quality and finish and this was to lead eventually to the downfall of the firm. By 1928 Sunbeam had become part of the ICI combine but did not add very much to group profits so in came the accountants and much of the tradition had to go.

hiya Frank. Great photo! These early 1920's Sunbeams were excellent bikes. The pictured bike is a 492cc sidevalve, known as the Model 6 or the TT bike or the Longstroke. It was the last sidevalve bike to win at the Isle of Man. This particular model is my favorite with the early style dummy rim brakes and white rubber tires. Sunbeams were famous from the beginning for their excellent finish. The company had made black japanning items for more than one hundred years and perfected the process before they began making bikes.
