From Wood to Iron by Michel Boch

.

I received a lot of emails asking me more about the TriBsa that Michel Boch made and specially about the making of the Tank, so here it is. As you will see Michel made this tank from scratch by hand and its a piece of art now.

Hi,
I'm Michel, the builder of the TriBSA
Thanks Frank for this nice layout of the report.
Let me try to explain how I did this tank. My first idea was to create a wood model as you can see on the pics to hammer the alumium sheet direct on the model. But it wasn't possible by that way because of the thickness of the aluminium sheet. I work in an aluminium plan and I used what I could find in the scraps: Aluminium alloy 1050A (99.5% aluminium) 2mm thick. That alloy is very tender so the best choice for hammered aluminium work. It's also used for classic car aluminium body.
The basement of metal work is: where you hammer, the metal lengthens. Easy to to say but not so easy to do. The only tools I used were a hammer and an anvil and 600 hours to get the right form. It took me 2 years to finsh it, hammering only the weekend during day hours because of the noise it produce. The welds have been done by a professionnal.
It's hard to explain how to do but so easy to show. Anyway, everybody could do that as soon as he's persevering. And the best way to learn is to try. Every day I try new processes and not only on motorbikes and I'm learning more and more.
Hope you like the TriBSA
