This year, for the very first time, the Royal Ascot issued a dress code for all guests coming to catch a day at the horse races. Among the new strictures—which included morning suits in blue or black only for the men and strict hemline guidelines for the ladies—perhaps the most talked about is that there were no fascinators allowed on the grounds this year, not even for the royals, and only proper toppers were permissible.
