1958 BSA DBD34 Gold Star

Taking its name from the award given to competitors at Brooklands for doing a lap at over 100 mph (first used by BSA following Wal Handley's achievement on an Empire Star at the circuit on Wednesday 30th June 1937), the DBD34 Gold Star was the ultimate incarnation of the now iconic machine.

Introduced in 1956 and produced until 1963, the 500cc DBD34 'Goldie' built on the features of previous incarnations (telescopic forks, swinging arm suspension, alloy head and barrel) with a 190mm front brake, the now famous RRT2 close ratio gearbox, Amal GP carb, clip on handle bars and swept back exhausts as standard equipment. It was so successful in Clubman trim that it lead to the IoM Clubman TT being dropped in 1956 following Bernard Codd's double senior/junior victory in 1956, but Gold Stars continued to have huge amounts of success in their trial and scrambles trims (which, although much rarer than the road machines command less money) as well as other Clubman races.

This example is being sold by Bonhams on Sunday April 24th at Stafford County Show Ground, with an estimate of £12,000-15,000, and should do rather well considering its incredible condition, lack of deviation of original factory spec and unique UK registration number of 'DBD 499'.
