The Proust Questionnaire # 14 : Pete Young

.

Our WebWorld; a lot of us are spending a couple of minutes or hours everyday checking our favourite websites or blogs but who are behind them ? Most part of the time we dont really know.
To find out what's going on behind the screen, i started a serie of portrait of the Men and Women who are making the blogosphere better, for this fourteenth Portrait, i asked Pete Young to go thru the Proust-Pivot-Lipton Questionnaire to let us know more about himself. Pete is the man behind the great Occhiolungo blog and here are his answers.

1. What is your favorite word ? Finished.

2. What is your least favorite word ? New-and-improved.

3. What turns you on ? Oh, lots of things: Science. Thinking ahead. Good designs. Things that function well. Old technology. Good beer. Helping others. Free time.

4. What turns you off ? Marketing & consumerism. Shortsightedness.

5. What sound or noise do you love ? My children laughing. A single cylinder Velocette bellowing through a fishtail silencer. A little bit of banjo in a rock music song always makes me smile.

6. What sound or noise do you hate ? The garbage truck at 5am. Commercials. Guys that compensate for their small hardware by revving their motors a lot.

7. What is your favorite curse word ? “Sonofabitch bum I kill you! Get a job! Fuckeen I don’t know!” From Lupo the Butcher. It is a mouthful, but it very effectively takes my mind off the issue at hand and makes me laugh.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt ? I’d love to have The Stig’s job on BBC’s Top Gear. Or teaching physics to high school students. There are several things that I’d like to do for a short term, say 2 years each: Brew beer, make stone sculptures, edit and mix Tom Waits’ next album, direct a short movie, build a replica of Butler’s 1884 motorcycle, rebuild Chippendale furniture, try to replicate the methods used to build the Parthenon and the Pyramids, farm 20 acres in Tuscany, be a docent at the Louvre, host Mythbusters, etc. etc. But I’m pretty happy with my current career too, inventing things and designing mechanisms and machines.

9. What profession would you not like to do ? Any job that requires working with money.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates ? “Now you have all the time that you need, do whatever you want with it.”
