ELF Motorcycle Racing

.

Tracing A Decade Of Radical Racebike Experimentation : By Alan Cathcart via www.motorcyclespecs.co.za

The waving of the checkered flag at the Brazilian Grand Prix on September 17, 1988, marked the end of an era. A decade of exciting experimentation came to a close that day when the last ELF racing motorcycle completed its final race. In the 10 years leading up to that day, the ELF name had transcended its petroleum-industry roots. It had become synonymous with a series of ambitious, high-profile and determined attempts to expand the frontiers of motorcycle chassis design. ELF created an alternative motorcycle that would demonstrate its superiority on the most demanding proving ground-international roadracing competition.

BMW R65 Enduro

.

all pictures via the excellent : www.regolarita70.it

The BMW R65 was a light touring motorcycle introduced by BMW in 1978 to add a mid-size motorcycle to its product line. The original R65 was made up until 1984 with a smaller frame than larger R series motorcycles, but in 1985 the R65’s engine was put into the new (and larger) R80 frame which featured a single rear shock absorber (mono-shock).

Case-Real Architecture, Japan

.

At CASE-REAL, they believe interior design is about more than applying superficial color schemes or coordinating the arrangement of furniture and artwork. Rather, the first step is to carefully interpret factors ranging from the surrounding environment and society to the client’s needs, goals, and visions. This analysis gives rise to creative ideas that become the basis for a clear design concept, and this underlying concept in turn guides every aspect of planning, from overall structure to particular details.

Loki by Bandit9

.

Loki is a customized Chang Jiang 750 and is the first bike to roll out of Bandit9. The CJ750 is a heavy-duty Chinese military bike designed to withstand extreme weather. This was a good place to start. I wanted to redesign the bike to look and ride more elegantly. Customizing this bike was no easy task.

I just relocated to Beijing because of my career in advertising. And since I'm completely obsessed with bikes, it's the first thing I went looking for…even before my apartment.

Beijing is full of sidecar bikes and scooters but you never see any true custom bikes. The builders here claim to make custom bikes but the only difference is the color. I hated that. I needed to change that. So I opened up my own shop, Bandit9. But the language barrier made it a nightmare, and since the builders here are used to the generic CJ style, I faced a lot of resistance.

With Loki, I focused on the details. I went with 19 inch rims and Firestone tires, an unusual detail for a CJ. I crafted fenders to hug the wheels, added disc brakes and upgraded the suspension. I lowered the seat bracket to streamline the profile, and added springs for a more comfortable ride. The frame sits lower than a regular CJ750, giving it an aggressive stance.

My favorite aspect of Loki is it's growl - a result of shortening and reshaping the exhaust like a bamboo shoot. It commands attention. The deep forest green tank with pearl pinstripe adds a classic element, similar to a 60's Jaguar.

Loki is what Bandit9 is about - standing out in a sea of repetition. The brand believes that it's more fun to be a pirate than a sailor. There's a lot of potential with the craftsmen here; they just need to be introduced to the possibilities. I want Bandit9 to put China on the map for custom motorcycles.

" the bike and company has picked up a lot of steam recently but i really wanted presence on your website. " thanks for your time! -d-

Visit Bandit9's working site and blog for more photos and for upcoming projects.

Twins - Houses in five parts

.

Via : Designboom   - Pictures copyright : Peter Guthrie

Boston based practice William O’Brien jr. has designed 'twins: houses in five parts', two single family residences located in upstate New York, USA. Intended for two brothers, a pair of structures sharing similar geometric qualities are linked by a functional agricultural field. The internal volumes are the result of a study of the mathematical principle of 'dissection' in which polygons of equal areas may be divided into identical shapes. Two sets composed of four varied trapezoids and one triangle containing parallel programmatic functions are arranged into a square and hexagonal plan configuration.
