Stefan's BSA

.

Born in 68 brought to USA in the spring of 68. Didn’t sell so the bike got his way back to UK, had been fitted with MY 69 goodies like the new fork and other 69 gimmicks. Went back to the states and was sold somewhere in Arizona. In 1994 a German from Bavaria imported the bike from USA to Germany, restored it and drove it for almost ten years. The he sold the bike to a collector of bikes (having more than 100 motorcycles). He kept the bike until 2009 and then swapped the hundred bikes for one oldtimer car, don’t know which one. In 2009 I bought it from a classic car dealer in Belgium, made a rolling restoration of the finish, the engine works fine. Nearly changed every bolt and nut, restored the fork, the brakes, the carburetor, cluth and ignition, bought some peashooters and other nice gimmicks. It rides fantastic even I have to fix the gearbox because the 3rd doesn’t work any more.

But it’s a very reliable bike, I drove it fast, only taking care that the oil is really in good condition. What I like on café racing is the authentic way of biking and getting a bike of former times going like a beast (in relation) without just giving it to the dealer, spending thousands of bucks for a lots more of plastic.

Thanks for your interest and keep on going!

Best, Stefan

Bobsleigh

.

Although sledding on snow or ice had been popular in many northern countries, bobsleighing is a relatively modern sport. It originates from two crestas (skeleton sleds) being attached together with a board and a steering mechanism being attached to the front cresta. English tourists were crossed with the successful marketing and vision of hotelman Caspar Badrutt in the mineral spa town of St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Swiss Mirage III RS

.

Here are two rare photos of the Swiss Army that I received during my last rehearsal class or rehearsal where I served on these models. As you see, it's Mirage III RS (R for recognition, S for Switzerland). There are even two Swiss and two-seaters in the foreground two models of the Air Force including a two-seater. More so F-18 etc.. etc. ....

The Swiss army got rid of those wonderful old style (one of - if not THE - most beautiful jet ever built) in 2006 ...

Forgotten Detroit

.

Detroit is known for one of the most stunning collections of pre-depression architecture in the world. The past two decades have seen several of these treasures sit vacant, waiting for economic revival.

One of Detroit's greatest jewels is the 14 story, gothic styled Metropolitan Building. Built during the great construction boom of the 1920's, the Metropolitan became a principle address for jewelers and watchmakers.

The famed hotelier E.M. Statler saw great promise in Detroit when he selected the city as the site for the third of his "complete hotels". When it opened in February 1915 it was clear that Statler's genius, Detroit's prosperity, and the artistic ability of its designers had created one of the great marvels of hotel architecture.

Probably the most unusual building downtown is the triangular "castle" that dominates over Grand River and Cass. Rather then some fairy-tale landmark or defensive fortification the Grand Army of the Republic Building served as the local quarters for an association of Union Civil War veterans.

Air Racers

The first ever air race was held in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1908. The participants piloted the only 4 airships in the U.S. around a course located at Forrest Park. 2 of the pilots went off-course due to strong winds, and the other 2 successfully completed the course, and divided the $5,000 prize.
The first event in heavier-than-air air racing history was held on May 23, 1909 - the Prix de Lagatinerie, held at the Port-Aviation airport south of Paris, France. Four pilots entered the race, two actually started and nobody completed the full race distance. Léon Delagrange, who covered more than half of the ten 1.2-kilometre laps was declared the winner.
